In a recent article, we discussed the basics of craniosacral therapy. As you might have guessed, some people are a little skeptical that the benefits of craniosacral therapy are derived from the gentle cerebrospinal fluid manipulations. In an effort to provide you with a fair look at the technique, here’s a look at some studies that confirm or question the technique’s effectiveness.
Craniosacral Studies
In a 2010 study, patients with fibromyalgia who underwent craniosacral therapy saw bigger pain improvements compared to those who receive placebo treatment. Another study found that craniosacral therapy and acupuncture could provide additional benefits to patients receiving conventional treatment for asthma. A final study found that the therapy technique could help to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life in patients with anxiety and depression. On the flip side, a 1999 study and a 2011 study could not find any evidence on the effectiveness of craniosacral therapy.
