The Ankle & Foot
The ankle / foot is a very intricate complex. There are a total of 28 bones and over 100 ligaments, tendons, and muscles. The foot needs to be strong and stable to support us while at the same time flexible enough to allow for multi-planar movements like walking, running, jumping, etc. The ankle sustains the greatest load per surface area of any joint in the body. It has been found that the foot/ankle absorbs 120% of your body weight when walking and up to 275% during running. Because of the complexity of the foot and ankle, it is a common site for sprains, strains, tendinitis, tears, fractures, fallen arches, bunions, and many more.
We will begin with an evaluation of the foot/ankle to assess the structural anatomy, static stability, dynamic stability, joint and/or soft tissue restrictions, muscle imbalances, and gait abnormalities. Once the problem(s) have been identified, we will utilize manual therapy and/or modalities to address acute impairments and pain. At the same time, we will provide you with exercises to address the impairments to help improve strength, flexibility, and normalize walking. If you desire to return to a specific activity, we will help you achieve that goal.
